Alfamart is a joint venture between SM and Alfamart Indonesia, one of the leading minimarket chain operators with more than 20,000 stores in Indonesia.
Alfamart started in the Philippines in 2014 and opened the first minimart in Trece Martires, Cavite. Since then, Alfamart has rapidly expanded in various locations in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon Province, Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales, Bataan, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. This year, in its 10th year of operation, Alfamart opened its 2000th store in the Philippines.

Aside from providing the family’s daily essentials, Alfamart makes sure that these goods are affordably priced. As Alfamart grows, the communities benefit as well as each store opened provides income-generating and employment opportunities. Alfamart provides rental income to local lessors for the use of their land or building space. Alfamart taps local contractors to construct the stores. Alfamart’s growth also benefits the local vendors who supply the stores. Alfamart also partners with MSMEs as they can rent space inside the store or in its vicinity for their small business. Whenever new stores are opened, members of the local community are hired. Aside from offering them a career path within the company, they are also provided with training and experience to help them develop skills that will benefit them throughout their career.
